Our Hotels & Apartments in Bulgaria

BULGARIA has to be the best bargain destination in Europe for serious skiing. But that doesn’t mean it has skimped on skiing facilities. The days of antiquated lifts and poor runs are long over thanks to massive investment in the main ski resorts, notably Bansko and Borovets. But as an emerging Eastern European nation, Bulgaria is still exceptionally cheap, both for skiing itself and for accommodation, restaurants and bars.

Plus its natural beauty is largely unspoilt with a conscious effort now being made to ensure ski development is ecological sound and preserves the surrounding scenery. And down from the slopes, Bulgaria offers a fascinating glimpse of a very different way of life with beautifully-preserved cultural and historical monuments, simple villages, and stunning mountain backdrops.

That doesn’t mean Bulgaria has no nightlife though. The resorts are buzzing with après-ski bars and discos open until the early hours, with drink prices that won’t break the bank. Limited in scale for the very serious skier, Bulgaria nevertheless has plenty for those at most ability levels and particularly for beginners. This is the ideal budget destination to try skiing or snowboarding for the first time.

Semiramida Gardens

BULGARIA’S oldest ski resort, Borovets has been open for more than 90 years. But its ski and snowboard facilities are up to the minute thanks to heavy investment. The town is 1,300 meters above sea level and the highest lift is above 2,500 meters so snow is reliable. Runs are mainly red or easier so it’s great for beginners as well as the experienced skier. Borovets, set amid pine forests, was established in the 19th century as a hunting lodge for Bulgaria’s kings and sights include a royal palace! By night there are plenty of bars, restaurants, and clubs all charging amazingly low prices.

BRAND-NEW apartments and studios set in the Borovets Hills offer everything you could need for a self-catering ski holiday, plus use of the facilities of the adjoining four-star Borovets Hills spa hotel, including superb indoor pool, sauna, steam baths, spa treatments, large bar area and two excellent restaurants. The Semiramida Gardens complex has magnificent views of the pine-clad mountains.
